Singapore Day 2 - Monday Sept 14
We got up before 6 Monday morning so that we could exercise, and after Roger went to work I swam 30 laps in the outdoor pool. The pool isn't very big so it didn't take too long. I discovered that my hair straightener can't work here since the voltage is 220. Roger has assured me that I look fantastic with my wash and wear hair and I've decided to believe him and avoid mirrors.
I hung around the hotel until mid afternoon because I was feeling some jet lag.
I walked over to the mall and ate a sandwich at Subway and then walked a few blocks to see a Hindu temple.
You can see the walkway over the road in the first photo. There was usually an escalator on the side where you go up, even though it's outside. The other photo shows a taxi, one of billions.
There was a sign asking visitors to remove their footwear before entering.
The temple was very ornate with gold carvings, statues, and uplifting messages on various walls.
The skylight makes the next photo look like this might have been outside the temple, but I was still inside.
Lots and lots of elephants inside and out.
Then I decided to walk to something called Sun-Tec City, but apparently my map was not to scale. A little over an hour later I gave up and headed back. Have I mentioned that they drive on the left side of the road here? Not the wrong side, but definitely not the RIGHT side either. That has all kinds of implications, including the fact that pedestrians need to look at oncoming traffic in the opposite order. I discovered this when an oncoming bus was a few hundred yards away. Now I just check every direction several times before entering the street, something I should have done before.
Some interesting things I saw along the way include a tandem bike with a child's seat in between - great idea!
And a sign to protect senior citizens:
When I got back to hotel I decided to go to the mall across the street again and check out all 7 of its levels of shops. I finally found a hair straightener but the price was over S$89 so once again I decided to believe Roger and forget about straightening my hair.
I loved their use of the English language - the bishop's wife referred to it as "Singlish" - If you can read on the lower left of this package, "It look and feel like the real thing."
I left the mall after only one purchase - S$1.05 for hand sanitizer. Roger returned from work around 8 pm and we went for another walk around the beach. It was quite humid and warm so for dinner we each ate an ice cream cone. :)

Ok so, as I read I laughed so hard I told David "Look I can totally relate!"
My flat iron didn't work here either and after three weeks of looking like Tina Turner (due the humidity) I decided to be happy spending $40 on a new flat iron.
At the end I found out that the one I bought is a professional line that is worth $150.00 so now I look as if a cow licked my head and I am SO happy ;-)
I'm sure you look beautiful!
I agree with Cheryl! And I'm glad that you don't have kids with you so you can enjoy ice-cream for dinner guilt free. :)
This sounds like SO much fun. I'm so glad you're sharing it with us!
